The Lodge

The Lodge

A mountain resort for every season

With over 3,000 acres of magnificent wilderness as your private playground, Sun Mountain Lodge offers fun-filled activities for every age and ability. Described as a “recreational fantasyland” by the Lonely Planet, we invite you to create the family vacation of your dreams. Explore all of the activities!

Spring

Rivers run wild, and life emerges everywhere. The month of May brings the most spectacular show of the season, with brilliant yellow wildflowers covering the hillsides and wildflowers of every color. Hikers and cyclists are out enjoying the first hints of warmth, and rafters are treated to the thrills of a lifetime on the Methow River. Everything is alive.

Summer

Warm, sunny days, starry nights. Welcome to summer in the mountains of the North Cascades! Hiking trails in the Valley and foothills are open by June, and most of the high country trails are accessible by July. Mountain lakes are teeming with fish, mountain biking is ready for you, as are horseback riding, trail running, road cycling, rock climbing, swimming and boating.

Fall

No need to travel to Vermont to see fall colors. There is nothing quite like our deciduous firs, the larches, bursting with golden hues throughout the mountains. Hiking this time of year is at its peak, fly fishing is in season and most all of the summer activities are still in full swing at least through October.

Winter

A quiet time in the Valley, when the crowds have faded, and a blanket of snow hushes life’s dull roar to a whisper. The mountains beckon backcountry skiers, while cross-country skiers make their first tracks in the newly groomed snow. Families strap on their snowshoes for a walk in snow-covered woods or take a toboggan sled ride down the hill with the kids.

The Lodge

Inspired by the enduring beauty of nature, Sun Mountain Lodge reflects harmony with its surroundings down to the last detail. Enjoy your stay.

History

Sun Mountain Lodge was founded in 1968 by Jack Barron with a spectacular dining room designed by renowned Pacific Northwest architect Roland Terry.

Sun Mountain Lodge was purchased in 1987 by the Haub family of Germany and greatly expanded. The new Lodge opened in 1990 with a full-service spa, exercise room, recreation center, gift shop, library, and updated guest rooms.

Sun Mountain Lodge has undergone much renovation and refurbishment over the years, including the transformation of the pool and hot tubs and the expansion of the Wolf Creek Bar & Grill with its magnificent deck. New cabins designed by Boe Architects of Tacoma and built by local craftsmen were added at Patterson Lake in 2002.

The conference facility capacity was doubled in 2007 to more than 4,000 square feet and accommodation for up to person 300 weddings and banquets. The Pasayten Room features vast windows overlooking the Methow River Valley and the Okanogan National Forest, equipped with the latest audio-visual technology. Sun Mountain Lodge has a rich history; many new and old handcrafted items add to its unique atmosphere.

Internationally renowned architecture firm Olson Kundig led the refresh of the guest rooms, lobby, and conference spaces in the Main Lodge in 2023. While rooms and public areas were updated, the Lodge’s rustic and serene appeal was preserved.

High-speed Wi-Fi, including the 16 cabins along Lake Patterson, is available throughout the property.
